IWeb website & Freewebs...

Build a website with iWeb on your Mac ...Sign up for a FreeWebs website , pay for a starter " HTML " website hosting(pay for a domain name too if you want to make it easier) ...Go to iWeb , to File , & Export your website to a new folder (name the new folder)...Bonus points for- get Rage Webcrusher & Crush the website so it is smaller & easier to load ...then , get Transmit, type ftp.freewebs.com into first box then your username for freewebs in second box the your freewebs password in third box , find the crushed website file , select it in Transmit's box, press Synchronize the Upload files, & your new iWeb site will get sent to Freeweb ...(remember Freewebs FTP servers take 12 hours to set from the opening time of your account , so buy the account at night , in the morning try all of this...)To change your website...go to iWeb , change your website, repeat all of the steps except for the Transmit upload part- go to Freewebs edit site, delete All files! , then do the Transmit part & just upload the brand new site...site will be visible immediately...Once you have done this once it will become easier...(deleting all files then uploading a New site is way easier than editing...way easier...)Oh, & a little program called iWebsites will let you build more than one website in iWeb ...very handy little tool ...here is our iWeb FreeWeb RageWebcrusher iWebsite Transmit created site ... http://www.grovecanada.biz

All of this , remember is because people cannot load your MobileMe DotMac iWeb website because the pages load way too slow, & your computer starts to freeze up because of the traffic... This is a workable workaround ...it does work ...I arrived at this pattern on the third webhost try ... Freewebs works because it is easy enough for someone with no html skills , though you have to pick the HTML website selection when opening your account...all of the above programs work for morons like me who aren't computer geeks ...you do have to pay some money to the software people for their programs , but in the end you get a website that is accessible , which is very important ...

Clarifications: Publish to a new folder , is the specific button you push in iWeb when you are ready to send your iWeb created website to the internet...
In Transmit, when you connect to your Freewebs site, your current website is shown on the right hand side of Transmit's screen...(it is shown as two files)...You can delete those files on your computer right in Transmit, instead of manually going to Freewebs online...I figured this out after doing the manual thing a few times...both methods work, but deleting in Transmit is much faster & more elegant...(you delete your current website in Freewebs instead of trying to edit it online- then upload a whole new one...it's just easier than the headache of a renovation...just try to save all your little tweaks up, instead of tweaking daily...)

Note: when I wrote "Export" I should have said " Publish file to a new folder" from iWeb...

  So create site in iWeb...

 Go to FILE...

Click PUBLISH TO A NEW FOLDER

 NAME THE FOLDER

CHOOSE DESKTOP TO SEND IT to when you publish so it is easy to find...

Run it through WEBCRUSHER...then upload it via TRANSMIT to Freewebs host ftp address they give you...

To edit , edit in iWeb, follow all steps above, when you get to Transmit step, delete all of website that exists, replace with new edited version...this gets easy after first try...

(the mirror thing doesn't work too well, better to delete & upload new edit than to try mirror...Really!)

So Freewebs is now just called Webs , if you are looking...

In Transmit, once you connect to your host via FTP, you can click Synchronise, in Transmit, then MIRROR, to just update your site...It does work, but a word of caution, sometimes Mirror doesn't always work, so always check to see if the site is up after...

If you have troubles with Mirror, go back to just deleting the site, then uploading & replacing...Timewise it is not much longer, & always seems to work...

A note: Putting a work up on Ebay achieves several purposes- 1)it props up the price psychologically even if no sale occurs 2)Google search engines put ebay listings up fast & high, cheaper than Google Adwords if people are hunting for you 3)It provides an easy to read introduction to who you are & what your work is like, especially if you don't have a website that is good...4)International people can find you if you say you will ship worldwide 5) don't expect to sell a painting for $3,500.00 online...but do expect to boost your own self-confidence by seeing that price beside your work...(maybe someone will offer you less, they always do, but starting high gives you some leeway...)
